The Cape Verdean cavaquinho differs from the Portuguese version due to the length of the scale and the dimensions of the body. Its natural tuning is the same as that of the Brazilian cavaquinho (D–B–G–D, from the highest to the lowest string). Artimúsica cavaquinho is handcrafted in Portugal.
The Cape Verdean cavaquinho is similar to a small guitar and traditionally features 16 frets. However, the CV110 has 19, with a fretboard extending right up to the soundhole. The body is larger than that of the traditional Portuguese cavaquinho, which gives it a full-bodied sound when compared to the Portuguese version.
